Looking for the obvious

Obvious Spirituality: To really listen, thoughts have to be quiet

One of the most obvious Spirituality truths is that you are more than your thoughts. To transcend the mind and simply listen to them without attachment.

Unconscious Patterns

Break the pattern. When our minds and our bodies are so engaged with the routine of daily existence how do we see the continual magical moments of life’s brilliance? Yes it is raining outside and yes there are bills to be paid and yes you probably didn’t get enough sleep this week but hush. What did you not see? What did your spirit glisten with joy at the sight of whilst your ego crushed its glee with the weight of worldly burdens?

We are told to listen to our instincts, go with our gut and pay heed to our intuition but to do any of those things we must sit quietly lest we miss the signs – for your heart will not bellow out petulant protests as your mind will. No no the songs of your heart are subtle, quiet and only heard in the moments between your breath.

To really listen, thoughts have to be quiet

When was the last time you listened to your breath? Try this. Sit at the end of your bed tonight. Close your eyes. Watch. Listen. Do the thoughts flow thick and fast like an incessant radio? Good. Your mind is doing the job you have trained it so well to do. Just keep listening and watching. There is a you that exists beyond all of that thinking. You don’t need to look for it. It is already who you are.

The more frequently you allow yourself to drop into that space, the better you’ll know yourself, and the better we’ll know you. And we so want to know you. Come, play.
